Mike Iaconelli's Signature Spinning Reel from Abu Garcia
By now, you're probably aware of Abu Garcia's refreshed suite of Mike Iaconnelli signature rods and reels that are easily identifiable with their unique paint finishes and purple highlights. Today, we're here to tell you about a product to complete Abu Garcia's IKE lineup - the Revo4 IKE spinning reel.

Leaner, Meaner, and a whole lot Greener. Meet the 13 Fishing Inception Sport Z Baitcaster
Designed to offer anglers the best of both worlds, the Inception SZ draw upon features and technology from the rest of the 13 Fishing portfolio in an effort to deliver a more feature rich, and long-lasting reel, all at the aggressive $150 dollar price point.

Abu Garcia's Revo4 Beast is a Beauty
Abu Garcia has done an excellent job with their generation 4 refresh of their popular Revo low profile casting reel lineup. We've fished just about every model with reviews either published or pending publication. Today, we take a look at the model tailored for throwing big baits. Here's a look at Abu Garcia's Revo4 Beast.

Do You Believe in Magic? Our $99 Low Profile Casting Reel Round Up
When it comes to rods and reels, there's something magical about that $99 price point. We hear it referenced countless times from multiple manufacturers each year at ICAST. Once considered the threshold for higher end tackle, now it's break-point for value driven rods and reels. At ICAST 2018, there were a couple of reel manufacturers refreshing or introducing a new low profile baitcaster in this category.
Lew's Goes Mg with their Hyper Mag SLP
Introduced during ICAST 2017 as Lew's new top end reel, the Hyper Mag SLP casting reel had barely any time to shine when just one short year later the company introduced the Pro-Ti SLP as their new flagship. What did the Hyper Mag SLP do or not do to deserve such an abrupt demotion? We decided to take one out for a spin to find out.

Abu Garcia Begins the Countdown to Liftoff with the 10.1:1 Revo4 Rocket
The race for highest speed, low profile baitcasting reel has accelerated since ratios crested 6.6:1. For a year or two, we had incremental increases above 7.1:1, then after engineering allowed manufacturers to crest 8.0:1, the count up has accelerated another notch. Today, we're here to discuss the very first 10.1:1 low profile baitcasting reel on the market.

One for the Enthusiasts: The Shimano Antares A70 Baitcaster with MGIII
Every lineup needs a flagship, and in Shimano’s low profile baitcasters series the one reel to rule them all is the Antares A70, the smallest and most advanced non-DC equipped Antares the company has introduced. Designed to usher in a new benchmark in refinement and casting performance, with the implementation of the new MGII spool design, this reel might just be the company’s most sophisticated yet.
Is ICAST's Best Freshwater Reel of 2016 Still Relevant?
It has been a few years since Lew's introduced their Custom Pro SLP casting reel and took home ICAST honors for Best Freshwater Reel back in 2016. Lew's has since introduced two reels above this former flagship. In a category where a three year old product could mean it's over the hill, does the Custom Pro SLP still hold up today? Let's find out.

Okuma Gets Stealthy with the Cerros Baitcaster
This past year at ICAST was relatively quiet for Okuma, but while surveying their low profile casting reels, I spotted a reel of which I was not familiar. It's an understated little gloss black number that felt good in hand and surprised me a little bit with the price tag of only $104.99, so after the show, I ordered one for a closer look.

Abu Garcia Makes a Case for (MG)Xtreme Value and Performance
What if you want to feed your enthusiast soul with something better than "budget" but want to stay away from "extravagant"? The answer there lies in the dollar amount you consider the happy median. If you have a good amount of flexibility in that definition, Abu Garcia has a new flagship spinning reel that could very well feed your hunger. Let's take a closer look at the MGXtreme spinning reel by Abu Garcia

Best Value Is An Accurist Statement from Quantum
Back in 2017, Quantum debuted their new, from the ground up casting reel design for their renewed Smoke and PT Tour casting and spinning reels. These, new "S3" engineered reels were to usher in a new era for Quantum. Fast forward a year later to ICAST 2018, and the manufacturer has infused this approach into the lineup that's going to really get all the attention.
A Closer Look at Lew's Best Seller, the Speed Spool LFS
Lew's re-emerged as a reel company to be reckoned with roughly around the time the first generation Abu Garcia Revos debuted. Admittedly, we don't cover enough Lew's product here at TackleTour, and hopefully that will change from this point forward. Today, we take a look at arguably, they're best selling reel, the $99.99 Speed Spool LFS
Shimano SLX Baitcasters Deliver the Features that Anglers Need, at a Price they Demand
Shimano’s latest foray into the hotly contested $99 dollar price point, the SLX, looks to be a real contender by returning to an aluminum based frame with a more compact profile, upping the ante in both refinement and performance.
Now Back to a More Traditional Package : Abu Garcia's Gen 4 Revo S
With the introduction of their new entry level Revo model, the X, Abu Garcia must have realized sales of their former entry level Revo, the S, were bound to slow down. But just what are the differences between the S and the X and is the S still a good value at $30 more than the X? Let's take a closer look.

A First Look at the Upcoming 13 Fishing Inception Sport Z Baitcaster
13 Fishing has never been afraid of bold designs and styling when it comes to their tackle offerings. The company is preparing to introduce a new Inception Series reel at the upcoming Bassmaster Classic, and it will be the first reel in the mainstream series to make use of the company’s Concept Zero Bearings (CZB)
The Dependable Abu Garcia Revo4 S Spinning Reel
As we've been uncovering all year, Abu Garcia's gen four revamp of their freshwater reel lineup extends from the newly introduced Revo X through their flagship Premier. However, casting reels weren't the only product to receive a refresh. Abu's extensive lineup of spinning reels received a corresponding renewal.

A Signature Whine: Shimano’s Curado 150 DC Feels Both New and Familiar at the Same Time
A Shimano DC reel for only $249 dollars? I’m not sure I ever thought that we would see the day that this feature would finally become mainstream, let alone be introduced in a Curado Series reel. Yet here we are, and the Curado Series enters a new chapter, serving as the launch platform for Shimano’s new and easier to operate I-DC4 system.

Let's Talk About SX, Revo4 SX
There's a magical price point in bass fishing circles where value meets high end. At TackleTour, we refer to this as the shadeline. Like a shadeline, this price point can move, and is different depending on the product (body of water), sun angle (state of the economy), and depth you are fishing (your own personal budget), but with low profile baitcasters, this line is typically from $150 - $175.
A REVO Four, Two Worlds - the Inshore
Freshwater lakes and waterways are not the only destinations for anglers seeking to wet a line. Inshore and brackish water species are just as fun to catch, but these environments are much more harsh on our equipment. Manufacturers have responded with increasing amounts of tackle built specifically for these situations.
Time to Spool Them Up and String Them Out... Which Reel Is Best (part two)?
When we left our four contestants at the conclusion of part one, they were a disassembled collection of gears, drag washers, sideplates, frames, and handles. Shortly after completing the previous installment, our three additional St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MFs arrived, so we reassembled the contestants with earnest and began the strategy of our continued tests. Time to spool them up and string them out.
4 Techs, 3 Countries of Origin, 2 Price Points, One Goal... Which Reel Is Best? - 2018 Low Profile Baitcaster Shootout (part one)
Low profile baitcasting reels are the weapon of choice amongst serious bass anglers. With close to a dozen manufacturers, there are so many reels to choose from that it's often difficult to make heads or tails out of one product as compared to the next.

Breaking Free of Middle Child Syndrome, Abu Garcia's Revo4 STX
I've fished all the reels from the X through the Premier, but the one reel I was most excited to sample, once I discovered its improvement, is the subject of today's review. Introducing Abu Garcia's 4th Generation Revo STX.

SOLID! - The Shimano Bantam MGL Baitcaster
It has become increasingly difficult to differentiate, and in many respects while baitcasters continue to push the refinement envelope the basic formula for these low profile reels remains vastly unchanged. The new Bantam is something new, something quite unlike anything else in the Shimano lineup, and bridges the gap between low profile baitcasters and aluminum round reels.
Higher End Affordability, Pflueger's Patriarch XT Spinning Reel
Of all the freshwater reel manufacturers out there, one that often gets overlooked is Pflueger and it's difficult to ascertain why. Afterall, if there is one reel manufacturer that consistently delivers solid performance at a reasonable price, it is Pflueger.
Shimano Curado 150 DC – Bringing Digital Cast Control to the Masses
Shimano’s Digitally Controlled (DC) braking system is not new, it is a proven technology that has been reserved for the company’s highest end, mostly JDM, reel offerings. That is until next week when Shimano will officially launch the Curado 150 DC, the first mainstream baitcaster in the U.S. to make use of this externally adjustable microprocessor controlled technology.
Number Four REVO Winch by Abu Garcia
Fresh off their Editor's Choice Award win with the Revo X, Abu Garcia is right back in the fire with perhaps my favorite Revo model or at least the one in my lineup that has seen the most consistent use over the years...
Slowing Things Down with Abu Garcia's Revo 4 Winch Spinning Reel
One of the arguments I hear in passing as to why bass anglers prefer casting reels to spinning is the slower gear ratios in spinning reels versus casting. What I guess many of the anglers making this argument fail to realize is it's not the gear ratio that's important, but the actual rate of retrieve or inches of line retrieved per turn of the reel's handle (IPT).

Making a Case for the Rotation : Quantum's Smoke S3 Inshore Spinning Reel
One of the Quantum reels that really caught our attention at ICAST 2017 was a black spinning reel with blue highlights. It is one of the newly re-engineered Series Three reels, but not built solely for freshwater. In fact, this reel is actually intended for inshore use, but of course, just because it's built for inshore does not mean we can't use it in freshwater applications.

Forget the 4, this Revo Generation is about the X
No, Abu Garcia's Revo4 model X is not a product made in conjunction with Tesla motors nor does it have any electronic parts (that we know of). Instead, it is the new, gateway Revo model available in three retrieve ratios and presented with a price tag of $99.
A New Benchmark in Rigidity? A Look inside the Shimano Bantam MGL Baitcaster
At the recent Bassmaster Classic Shimano officially introduced a new generation of anglers to the series with the launch of the Bantam 150 MGL which will be offered in six different models. The new Bantam reels channel the original with a focus on a solid metal construction, only with a whole lot more refinement and use of the latest technologies from the Shimano stable...
Living up to the Hype? The Zero Ball Bearing Concept Z from 13 Fishing
Probably the most talked about low profile baitcaster to be introduced in the last year, the 13 Fishing Concept Z has been the subject of much debate since this zero ball bearing reel was launched this past ICAST...

Built for Big Baits, the Beast that is the Daiwa Lexa Type-WN 400H
Designed to tackle just about anything that anglers can tie on the new Daiwa Lexa Type-WN reels feel right at home in inshore and saltwater applications but is also a great fit for big bait specialists that are looking for a reel that can cast and crank back the biggest and heaviest swimbaits available.

Solid, Smooth, Refined, Quantum's New Smoke S3 Spinning Reel
Quantum's Series Three (S3) Re-imaging and re-engineering of their entire suite of reels as debuted at ICAST 2017 did not end with just their casting reels. No, the revamp includes their spinning reel lineup as well. Today, we take a look at of their Smoke S3 spinning reels to see just how well it performs.

First Tests and a Look Inside the 13 Fishing Concept Z - Zero Ball Bearing Baitcaster
The Concept Z is the first high-performance casting reel to be manufactured without any ball bearings and instead makes use of an advanced polymer technology to create their Concept Zero Bearings (CZB) to build a reel that is designed to fish quite unlike any other.

Shimano’s Curado K Baitcaster : More than Black and White
The Curado Series is a critical reel, arguably the most important cornerstone of Shimano’s entire low profile baitcasting lineup. Delivering a reel that lives up to the Curado name is no simple task. Simply put, this is the one that Shimano had to get right.
Headed in the Right Direction, Quantum's PT Tour S3 Casting Reel
If Quantum's Smoke series of reels are their workhorse, their PT Tour line of reels are their mainstream flagship casting reels. The Tour Mg costs more, but it's not as widely appreciated as the standard PT Tour and the EXO reels, it seems, have been discontinued.
